Warner Bros. Movies Now Available on
Facebook
The world's most popular Internet destination, Facebook, has reportedly inked a deal with Warner Brothers to make some of the latter's full-length films available on the site for streaming. The move will create a new source of revenue for the social networking giant, and offer competition to online entertainment providers like Hulu and Netflix.
Users will pay to view the movies using Facebook Credits, a virtual currency that is mainly used by its users in social gaming. Facebook, which generates the majority of its revenue through online advertising, gets a 30 percent cut of revenue generated on the website through the use of Credits. The service will initially be availble only in the United States.
It is not yet known if other movie studios are working on deals to make content available on Facebook. The first movie available on the site is “The Dark Knight”, and additional titles will be made available in the coming weeks. Rentals cost users 30 Facebook credits, which can be purchased at 10 credits for $1, and viewers are given access to the movie for 48 hours, giving them the ability to pause a movie and resume watching when they log back in.
