U.S. Businesses Expect to Increase Hires
According to a poll conducted by Business Roundtable, more than half of chief executives of large U.S. companies expect to spend and hire more in the next six months even though the economic recovery appears to be slowing. The poll showed that 51 percent of the CEOs surveyed expect to increase hiring, after 52 percent expected to pickup hiring last quarter, the highest number since the trade group began polling its members in 2002.
More than 60 percent of the executives, meanwhile, indicated they would pick up spending on computers, software and machinery. Nearly 90 percent of the polled executives appeared confident about their own company's prospects, forecasting higher sales, despite forecasting a consensus growth rate of 2.8 percent for the overall economy in 2011.
Business Roundtable represents the top executives from the nation's 200 largest companies. Conducted between May 16th and June rd, the poll received responses from 135 of those executives.
