According to HollywoodReporter.com, sales of Aerosmith music have skyrocketed ever since lead vocalist, Steven Tyler, took over for Simon Cowell on American Idol. From the moment Tyler debuted on Season 10, the band's Greatest Hits collections have surged over 250%.
Aerosmith's 1994 release, "Big Ones", has increased 260%, while 2004's "Devil's Got a New Disguise: The Very Best of Aerosmith" jumped 146%. Then there were two other greatest hits collections with one rising 137% and the other 147%.
To put things in perspective, Aerosmith catalog sales were on the downtrend. Pre-American Idol - Their entire catalog was collectively selling about 1000 copies per week. Post-American Idol - the Aerosmith catalog is selling more than 2000 copies per week, PER RELEASE.
Aerosmith singles are also selling more than ever, with "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" moving 34,000 downloads in a week (+363% increase) and their
1973 classic hit, "Dream On", which sold 26,000 downloads in a week, a 318% increase.
