Sprint Sneaks New Charge In For 3G Customers

The third-largest wireless carrier in the US, Sprint, has announced that it's increasing the price of it's 3G Everything plan by adding an extra $10 “premium data” fee to the plan.  The change, in effect, means that users of 3G phones will be paying the same amount for monthly service as users of the Evo and Epic smartphones, which run on the company's new 4G network.

The way the company announced the new charge was interesting, as it appears in a press release titled “Smartphones Drive Wireless Data Explosion.”  The release begins by expounding on increased use of data before turning abruptly into a defense of the new fee.  The release does say that current plans will not be affected, until they either “upgrade or activate another smartphone.”
