Sony Sues LG Electronics
Sony Corp has reportedly filed a patent infringement complaint in an attempt to block LG Electronics Inc from shipping several smartphone models, including the Rumor 2, to the United States. The complaint was filed Wednesday with the US International Trade Commission, and claims LG violated US trade regulations by importing phones and modems which infringe on Sony patents.
In addition to the Sony patents, the company said LG's phones also infringe on several patents of its licensees, including Samsung, Nokia, and Sony-Ericsson joint venture. The company has also filed a similar complaint with a federal court in Los Angeles, records show. A spokesman for LG said in an email that LG company policy calls for not discussing any issues related to pending litigation.
Sony claims that the patent infringement involves more than 10 of LG's phones including the Encore, LG Accolade, Neon, Quantum, Rumor Touch, and others. The patents involved cover audio and microphone devices in the phones, caller ID technology, and transmission power.
