Sony Launches Music Unlimited Service

Sony Music launched its new “Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity” streaming service Thursday in the US, Australian, and New Zealand markets.  The service offers streaming of some six million tracks from the catalogs of Universal, EMI, Warner Bros. and Sony and is accessible from a number of Sony devices including VAIO PCs, the PlayStation 3, Blu-ray players, and Bravia televisions.

The service, Sony says, will also be available on Android smartphones, as well as iPhones, with an app released later this year, provided Apple's new subscription policy doesn't interfere.  Sony is offering two separate plans for the service, with the basic $3.99 per month package providing users with an interactive radio service, and the premium $9.99 per month service giving users full access to the Music Unlimited library.

The company says the premium service will provide extensive options for users to manage their music by compiling playlists, and the service will even scan local libraries and playlists to get the organization of users' Music Unlimited collections started.
