R.E.M. Seeks Fan's Help In Remixing Song

R.E.M. Has announced a March release date for their upcoming album, “Collapse Into Now,” but apparently wants a little help from fans to finalize the set.  The band's producer, Jacknife Lee, released the tracks of one of the album's songs this week in files that can be mixed in Garageband, the music-mixing program that comes standard on Mac computers.

Fans are invited to download the tracks, remix the song, titled “It Happened Today,” and upload their finished versions to SoundCloud under Creative Commons license.  The crowd-sourcing experiment is believed to be the first of its kind.  Additionally, the individual tracks were released under Creative Commons license so that anybody can download and remix them provided it is not for commercial use.
