Peugot China Sales Booming

French carmaker Peugot said this week that its sales in China could surpass its sales in its home market within the next five years, underscoring China's emergence as the world's Number one market for automobiles.

Peugot is reportedly on pace to sell 500,000 vehicles annually in China by 2015, compared to its annual sales of just 400,000 in France.  China surpassed the United States in 2009 as the world's top auto-market with sales of 13.64 million cars.  In the first 11 months of 2010, the market picked up even more, with sales of 16,4 million cars sold.  Total sales for the year are expected to reach 18 million.

Peugot executives are currently forecasting sales of 150,000 for this year, up from 112,000 in 2009.  The company expects to have 220 dealerships in China by the end of the year.  The company is Europe's number two automaker in terms of sales behind the German carmaker Volkswagen.
