Nintendo Warns 3D Game System Dangerous to Children

Japan-based video game giant Nintendo has released a health warning concerning the 3D functionality on its soon-to-be-released gaming console, recommending children under the age of seven not play with it to prevent possible damage to their eyes.

At a promotional event near Tokyo, a spokesman for the company remarked, “we will offer 2Ds alone to children aged six and younger as continuing to watch 3D images for a long time could negatively affect the development of their eyes.”

The next-generation DS console, which allows gamers to play 3 dimensional games without the use of special glasses, was not ready in time for the holiday season but will be released in late February in Japan and in March in the US, Europe, and Australia.  The company will hold a three day, admission-free event beginning January 8th in Chiba, Japan to let gamers tryout the new console ahead of the official launch.
