NFL Labor Agreement Update

NFL Labor Agreement Update
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday that a new labor agreement could be reached by the Super Bowl on February 6th "if we all commit to it and work hard at it," which Goodell indicated that NFL negotiators are perfectly willing to do.
"There's no higher priority than getting a collective bargaining agreement," Goodell said after a day of meetings with NFL team owners. "So we will work night and day to get that done." Asked whether he thinks NFL Players' Association representatives would be as willing to put in the work, Goodell said, “I hope so.” NFLPA spokesman Carl Francis declined to comment.
One major hurdle to a new agreement is the owners desire to restructure the players' share of league revenue, and another is their desire to expand the season, turning two preseason games per team into regular season contests. The players' union argues the move would produce more injuries, countering with a request for an increase in the size of league rosters and a decrease in off-season workouts by about a third from the current 14 weeks.
Goodell said that while there is no deadline in place for negotiations, the current agreement expires on March 4th, and a new agreement would be harder to reach after the old agreement expires.
