Meat Grown In Laboratories?

A handful of scientists around the world are developing the science of “growing” meat in laboratories.  One such scientist, the Medical University of South Carolina's Vladimir Mironov, has been working on the process for ten years.  The 56 year-old tissue engineer and developmental biologist believes the technology could be vital in the future in dealing with global food crises resulting from shrinking amounts of land to raise cattle.

The problem with the technology, currently, is that nobody wants to fund it.  NASA funded the research for a short time, but no longer, while the FDA and National Institutes of Health have declined to provide funding for the research.  Mironov explained that bringing a new technology to market typically costs $1 billion, on average, and funding for meat growth technology isn't even at $1 million.
