McDonald's to Hire 50,000 Workers
McDonald's Corp. is hiring 50,000 new workers across the United States on Tuesday, with 1,500 of those jobs available in the Chicago area. Every McDonald's across the nation will begin taking applications at 7:00 AM and will accept them until 5:00 PM. By the end of the day, the fast-food chain hopes to increase its overall payroll by 50,000. Available jobs range from hourly crew positions to salaried management jobs.
McDonald's has locations in some 117 countries around the world and employees 1.7 million people. There are more than 13,000 locations in the U.S. alone, and 32,000 around the world. McDonald's hourly workers typically make more than minimum wage, usually over $8.00 an hour. McDonald's tries to push across a message similar to that of Starbuck's, that a job with the company is not a dead end as the company offers solid benefits packages and long-term career opportunities.
Last week, McDonald's was included on a list compiled by Working Mother magazine of the best companies for hourly workers in the nation. Other companies making the list were Best Buy, Capital One Financial, Cricket Communications, and USAA. In order to be considered for that list, at least half of a company's workforce had to be on hourly wages.
