Mavs Come Back from 15-Down in Fourth to Stun Miami Heat

Dirk Nowitzki Lays In Game 2-Winning Shot
Mavs Come Back from
15-Down in Fourth to Stun Miami Heat
With 7:15 left and a 15-point lead in Game 2 of the NBA Finals Thursday night, the Miami Heat appeared to be on their way to a 2-0 series lead and a stranglehold over the Dallas Mavericks. But in one of the most impressive comebacks in Finals history, Dallas held the Heat to one field goal and five points the rest of the way, scoring 22 points themselves to eke out a 2-point win, tying up the series at a game apiece with the next three games scheduled to be played on their home court.
Dallas superstar Dirk Nowitzki scored the Mavericks' final nine points, including the last two which he shot with his injured left hand. One of Dirk's favorite moves is to drive just inside the foul line and shoot the fade-away jumper, but Miami had managed to block that shot all night. So Dirk improvised, acting like he was taking the signature fall-away jump shot, but putting the ball back on the floor to drive for a layup. That's the play that Nowitzki used on the game-winner, and the one that will force the Heat to make adjustments.
Despite the Heat's constant double-teaming of Dirk, he still ended with 24 points, including the big nine at the end of the game. Jason Terry, who was held to 3-of-ten shooting in Game 1, contributed 16 points in the Game 2 victory, while Shawn Marion chipped in with 20. Lebron James had 20 points for the Heat, and Dwayne Wade had 36, but missed a potential game-winning three pointer with time expiring. The series now moves to Dallas, where the Mavericks can seal up their first championship with victories Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
