LinkedIn Acquires CardMunch

The professional social networking company LinkedIn has reportedly acquired CardMunch, a company that provides business card scanning services.  The terms of the deal were not disclosed.  CardMunch  allows users to scan business cards and convert them into phone contacts using Mechanical Turk.

Reportedly, LinkedIn will provide the service for free as a download available on iTunes.  The service was formerly available for a $2.99 purchase fee and charged 25 cents per card to convert after the first ten.  Refunds will be paid to customers with existing credits, as well.

Beginning Thursday, use of CardMunch will be subject to LinkedIn's Terms and Conditions.  LinkedIn says that it will be adding new features to the service in coming months and may eventually require CardMunch users to sign up for a LinkedIn account to access the app.
