Groupon CEO Apologizes for New Year's Mishap

Groupon CEO and founder Andrew Mason apologized to Japanese customers in a video posted on YouTube on Monday.  The apology stems from a New Year's Day deal featured on the site for an osechi meal from the Bird Cafe, a deal which Groupon sold 500 orders.  A problem arose, however, when the cafe was not able to process that many orders in a timely fashion.  Watch Mason's apology below.

The errant deal led to the president of the Bird Cafe, Kenji Mizuguchi, vacating is post, while Groupon reimbursed dissatisfied customers, apologized for the mishap, and handed out vouchers in an attempt to control the damage to its reputation.  Mason also says Groupon will start educating its customers on capacity planning to avoid similar problems in the future.
