Google Leases 3 Venice Office Buildings

Google Inc. has reportedly agreed to lease a Frank Gehry-designed office building in Venice, Italy, plus two other buildings in the city.  The three buildings reportedly contain more than 100,000 square feet of space, and insiders say that the announcement means that Google will likely make Venice the center of its European operations.

Earlier in the week, the Mountain View, California-based search giant announced plans to hire more than 6,000 workers around the globe in 2011, including more than 1,000 new employees in Europe.  One of the three buildings, the Frank Gehry-designed Binoculars Building, features an enormous binoculars sculpture designed by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen which could be an appropriate accompaniment to the famous Google logo, considering the companies Internet search roots.
