Google has officially launched a new product it is calling “+1”, which will allow users to share search results with friends and the broader Internet, as well as adding a social element to Google Ads, the company's main source of revenue. The launch is preliminary, and won't involve a toolbar version, which Google has tested.
The version of +1 launched Thursday involves a small button next to each and every search result. If users like the results they are given, they can click the button to share the result with those in their social circle, and the broader Internet usership. The +1 button will also work on the ads appearing in Google Search. Users sharing ads with friends might be a stretch, but because of how Google is set up, when a search result is +1'd as a regular search result, it will also show up as having been +1's in the ad.
In addition to allowing users to share results with those in their social circle, the new feature will also serve to highlight popular search results. When a user searches for something, he will be able to see if any of his friends have +1'd the result, but will also be able to see how many users overall have +1'd the result.
