Google Hits 150 Million Android Activations

Google Hits 150 Million Android
Activations
Monday was a big day for Google Inc, the world's unquestioned Internet search leader and developer of the popular Android mobile operating system. The Mountain View, California-based company announced its largest-ever acquisition, announcing it will acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. The move is largely intended to boost Google's patent portfolio to help it defend itself against lawsuits from competitors such as Apple and Microsoft, but the move is also significant for Motorola Mobility competitors such as HTC and Samsung as it could alter the Android ecosystem.
In addition to announcing the planned acquisition, Google's top executive Larry Page also revealed that Android has now been activated on 150 million devices around the world. The news comes just about a month after the company announced surpassing 130 million activations. By comparison, Apple announed in mid-July that it had surpassed 222 million activations worldwide, and Apple has been making iOS devices much longer than Android has been around.
At the time Google boasted 130 million activations, it said it was averaging 550,000 per day, but 20 million in a month would indicate an activation rate of 650,000 per day, though it's uncertain how much lag time there has been with either announcement between when the number was reached and when it was reported.
