Google Exceeds 100 Million Android Activations
At Google's I/O conference in San Francisco Tuesday, the search giant's director of product management, Hugo Barra, unveiled some impressive numbers about the success of its Android operating system. Barra, with the help of a 3D Android robot scaling a mountain of activation numbers, said that there have now been more than 100 million activations of the mobile OS worldwide.
The activations have come through 36 OEMs and 215 carriers. Barra also said that there are now more than 450,000 developers working on the Android platform in 112 different countries, and more than 310 devices have been released with Android technology. A year ago, Barra noted, there were approximately 100,000 new Android activations per day, a number that now stands at around 400,000. There are currently more than 200,000 apps available on Android Market.
In addition, Barra said that it took two years for the Android Market to hit 1 billion application installs, a number that is now reached about every 60 days. To date, Android Market boasts a total of over 4.5 billion application installs.
