Google Earth 6 Released
Google on Tuesday released the latest version of its Google Earth software. Users can download the program for Windows, OS X, or Linux from the search engine's website.
Among the changes with Google Earth 6, the Google Maps Street View experience has now been fully integrated into Google Earth. Pegman, the little avatar that represents your Street View position, now appears next to the program's navigation controls, just like in Google Maps. The program also now supports 3D representations of trees, allowing users looking to map out walking paths to avoid trees, rather than walking into them. The addition of the trees also makes the landscape portrayed by the program more appealing visually.
The latest version of Google Earth also addressed users' concerns with the historical imagery available through the program. The feature was originally added to Google Earth 5, but it wasn't always clear when and where it was available. The new version displays the date of the oldest imagery available in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
Google Earth 6 is basically a minor refinement of the program, rather than a complete overhaul, but fans of the program will want to download it asap. For those who've never used it, the video below offers a nice demonstration of the programs capabilities.
