eBay Acquires Where.com

eBay has reportedly qcquired a location-cased media company called Where.com.  The e-commerce giant did not disclose the terms of the deal, which is expected to close in the second quarter, but Boston Innovation reported the acquisition price at $135 million.

Where.com, which has raised some $20 million in funding, creates location-based mobile apps for every major mobile platform and has about 4 million active users.  The apps show local listings for restaurants, bars, retail stores, and events, as well as suggesting places and deals for users based on their location and past behaviors.  Last year, Where itself acquired daily deals site Ginger and renamed it WhereBuys.

Where.com also provides a location-based advertising network that allows companies to display ads only to users close to their stores.  There are currently more than 120,000 retailers, brands, and small merchants using the network.  Where will operate as an independent division under eBay that reports to its PayPal business unit.
