Dell Third-Quarter Profits Soar

Dell released its third-quarter results on Friday, posting a 144 percent jump in net income fueled by reductions in costs and a host of large IT upgrades following the US recession.

Increased corporate orders for the Austin, Texas-based company helped its revenue in the three months to climb 19 percent from the same time frame of 2009.  Orders from consumers, however, increased by only 4 percent, as American consumers continue to exercise caution in spending on big-ticket items.

Dell also reported a rise in profit margins thanks to significant drops in component costs on its systems.  Dell reported the strongest growth in revenue in the emerging markets of Russia, Brazil, India, and China.  Dell revenue increased by 30 percent collectively in those markets, led by a 55 percent revenue increase in India.
