Cliff Lee Dominates Rays as Rangers Win 1st Playoff Series in Franchise History

The Texas Rangers won a playoff series, for the first time in their history, on the strength of another stellar outing from their ace Cliff Lee.  Lee pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on six hits and striking out 11 in a 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Rangers scored their first three runs of the night by hustling on the base paths and 2nd-baseman Ian Kinsler added a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to provide a cushion.

Lee came into the game with the fifth-best post-season ERA of all time (minimum 5 starts) at 1.52 and lowered it to 1.44.  He is 6-0 in 7 playoff starts in his career.  The road team won every game in the series, a first in Major League history.

The Rangers will now head back to Arlington where they will host the defending champion New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. Game 1 will be Friday night and the Rangers are expected to send C.J. Wilson out to do battle with Yankees ace C.C. Sabathia.
