AOL Acquires Video Distribution Firm

AOL Europe has reportedly acquired a video distribution network called Goviral for $96.7 million. Goviral distributes branded video content for mainstream companies, advertising agencies, and content producers. Originally based in Copenhagen, Denmark, the firm now has offices across Europe. Goviral's viseo distribution network boasts 18,000 publishers across 24 vertical markets and claims to reach 350 million users and generate more than 60 million video views monthly.
The initial purchase price is reported as $74.1 million, plus another $22.6 million in a two-year earn out. Goviral joins StudioNow, Thing Labs, about.me, TechCrunch, and Thing Labs as recent AOL acquisitions.
AOL Europe Senior Vice President Kate Burns explained the move in a statement: “Video is core to AOL’s consumer programming strategy and goviral has created an incredibly compelling platform that delivers highly measureable and cost effective solutions to publishers and advertisers.”
Goviral will reportedly continue to operate out of its offices in Germany, France, Sweden, Spain, and the UK.
