UK Officials Release 8,500 UFO Files
The British National Archives this week released some 8,500 documents related to UFOs and the fears of British citizens of an alien invasion in 1967. Included in the documents are 35 previously classified files covering UFO sightings between 1997 and 2005. Files include photographs, sketches, and detailed accounts of UFO sightings, along with correspondence between witnesses and the UK's Ministry of Defense.
The disclosed documents illustrate how the massive global phenomena of UFOs has been discussed at the highest level of government and security services worldwide. Also included in the newly released files are a series of messages from UK officials to Grenada's Prime Minister about Grenada's proposed UN debate on UFOs in 1977 and 1978.
The documents also describe how the British government began inquiring into UFO sightings in 1950, after a series of sightings were reported. The Ministry of Defense even reportedly set up a secret group called the “Flying Saucer Working Party” to monitor and record sightings. The organization remained a secret until 1988 when messages between Winston Churchill and the Air Ministry were revealed.
The documents disclosed have been published online on the official website of the National Archives. Click here to take a look.
