Texas Rangers End 9-Game Playoff Losing Streak
Cliff Lee pitched seven strong innings,
striking out a post-season career-best 10 batters as the Texas
Rangers won just the second playoff game in franchise history to
open up their best-of-five AL Divisional Playoff series against
the Tampa Bay Rays.
Lee allowed two hits in the first inning, but was able to get
through it without allowing a run. The pitcher, who the Rangers
acquired mid-season in a trade with Seattle, allowed five hits in
his seven innings, including a seventh inning home run by Ben
Zobrist that was the Rays' only run in the
game.
Lee improved his career postseason record to 5-0. Nelson Cruz and Bengie Molina hit home runs in the game, which the Rangers won by a final score of 5-1. The game ended a nine-game playoff losing streak for the Rangers that started back in 1996. Game two of the American League Divisional Playoffs between the Rangers and Rays will be played at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay at 2:37 ET. The Rangers will have C.J. Wilson pitching against the Rays' James Shields.
