Top 10 Thrash Bands of All-Time

By Geno

slayerlogo.jpg

1. Slayer
2. Metallica
3. Pantera
4. Slipknot
5. Anthrax
6. Megadeth
7. Exodus
8. Sepultura
9. Metal Church
10. Testament

If we were just basing it on the first four albums then Metallica would be #1 but Metallica has become so lame through the years and, in my opinion, Slayer has surpassed them.  I know some people think Pantera is not thrash, that they are some form of 'new metal' but they are a 90's version of thrash, same goes for Slipknot.   For a few years in the 80's Anthrax was probably more popular than all of those bands but they got rid of vocalist Joey Belladonna and lost something in the process.  Since his return to the fold, Anthrax is proving once again that they belong at the top of the list.  And yes, Metal Church was a thrash band!

Rolling Stones Release First New Material in Six Years

By Geno

rollingstones.jpg

To celebrate their  50th anniversary, the Rolling Stones have released their first new material in six years.  'Doom and Gloom' is one of two new tracks on their latest greatest hits album, entitled 'GRRR!'.  What I find most amusing is the amount of critics panning the new material, mostly centered on Mick Jagger's vocals.  Comments like:

"The best bit is when he stops singing and starts blowing"
&
"If there's a weak link here then it's actually Jagger, who honks and caterwauls over the track like one of his own tribute artists. His extended enunciation is excruciating - almost to the point of parody in places."

First of all, get over it.  This isn't some band who is just breaking out, they're the freakin' Rolling Stones!  If you hate his vocals this time around, then you have hated his vocals all along.  To me, the song sounds like a band that is trying to get back to its roots, not only sounding like it was recorded on analog equipment in the 60's rather than the digital technology of today, but even capturing the vibe.  I say good job but you be the judge.

Axl Rose Issues Open Letter to Rock n Roll Hall of Fame

By Geno
After much speculation about a possible Guns n Roses reunion (at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony), Axl Rose sets the record straight and says he will not attend, and does he want to be inducted.

To: The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Guns N' Roses Fans and Whom It May Concern,

When the nominations for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame were first announced I had mixed emotions but, in an effort to be positive, wanting to make the most of things for the fans and with their enthusiasm, I was honored, excited and hoped that somehow this would be a good thing. Of course I realized as things stood, if Guns N' Roses were to be inducted it'd be somewhat of a complicated or awkward situation.

Since then we've listened to fans, talked with members of the board of the Hall Of Fame, communicated with and read various public comments and jabs from former members of Guns N' Roses, had discussions with the president of the Hall Of Fame, read various press (some legit, some contrived) and read other artists' comments weighing in publicly on Guns and the Hall with their thoughts.
